QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

I answer questions about the standards for certified translation. My translation service ensures that your documents meet official standards and assists you in supervising each project for a variety of aims.

What does "Certified Translator" mean?
Definition from Canada's official website:

Certified translator
A certified translator is a member in good standing of a professional translation association in Canada or abroad. Their certification must be confirmed by a seal or stamp that shows the translator's membership number.
How are documents submitted for translation?
I normally require scans or high-quality images for translation purposes. You can upload your documents through email at [email protected], WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, or regular text message. If preferred, you may also arrange an in-person visit to my office to submit your documents.
Do you put a stamp on your translations?
All certified translations bear the translator's signature, and an official stamp is added as needed.

Example of what it looks like

If you need notarization, I can help you for an extra charge.
Do you issue certified copies of documents?
In Canada, only a notary public can legally verify that a copy is identical to the original document.

Example of how it looks like

For an additional fee, I can have your original documents notarized and certified true copies created on your behalf.

In addition, the translation package includes a copy of the original document.

Example of a package
Can you help with document legalization, authentication, and apostille?
Yes, I can offer a full turnkey service. I handle the apostille, authentication, and legalization of your documents. For more information, please contact me at [email protected].

Here is a complete guide on apostilling Canadian documents for use in other countries. It contains several samples, photos, descriptions, and illustrations of apostilles. I utilized and assessed these approaches while working with a number of clients throughout Canada.
How long are translations for MTO and DriveTest valid?
According to the official website of the Government of Ontario, for MTO and DriveTest purposes, a certified translation must be dated no more than six (6) months before the date you apply for your Ontario driver's licence.

If your original foreign document doesn't change, the translation itself doesn't "expire" in content — but DriveTest will not accept a translation that falls outside this six-month window, so if your application is delayed, you may need a newly dated translation even if nothing on the original document changed.
